Any chance that you could create an additional user account option (for an application/task combination) so that users could chose to run tasks similar to the v6.18 betas on Windows systems?
Example:
Run only the selected applications
ACEMD: no
ACEMD ver 2.0: no
ACEMD beta: yes
ACEMD ver 2.1 (One Full CPU Core) YES
At the minute most Linux users are delighted to be seeing a 35% improvement, at the expense of one CPU core (well about 90% of a core).
All the systems I have attached to GPUGrid are quad-core or have 8 threads, so I usually leave one free to expedite GPU tasks anyway.
I know others like to crunch CPU tasks for other projects and don’t want to give up a core, so this would let everyone choice for themselves how they crunch. If you could do this it would keep everyone happy and improve overall performance significantly.
It would be a lot simpler than hundreds of people installing Linux ;)
