I just saw a few messages in the BOINC messages file
5/25/2010 7:46:57 PM GPUGRID Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
5/25/2010 7:46:57 PM GPUGRID Requesting new tasks for CPU
5/25/2010 7:47:02 PM GPUGRID Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
5/25/2010 7:47:02 PM GPUGRID Message from server: No work sent
5/25/2010 7:47:02 PM GPUGRID Message from server: Fermi-class GPU needed
5/25/2010 7:47:02 PM GPUGRID Message from server: ACEMD beta version is not available for your type of computer.
5/25/2010 7:47:02 PM GPUGRID Message from server: (reached limit of 2 GPU tasks in progress)
Your server seems to have assigned me a ghost workunit:
http://www.gpugrid.net/workunit.php?wuid=1513016
My machine does not seem to know anything about this ghost workunit.
Is this ghost workunit likely to cause me any problems beyond not being able to download the next workunit until a few minutes after my current workunit is reported? |

|
The workunit running previously finished and disappeared from my machine. At the same time, the ghost workunit turned into a real workunit and started. |

You could try to move from Boinc 6.10.18 to 6.10.56, but I think both are OK.
Might be some legacy from the server outage a day or two ago, when tasks went into pending on the server?
Double check that Boinc is not set to only show Active Tasks:
Tasks Tab,
Commands.
It will actually show a Show All Tasks button, when you can only see running tasks! |

Well, I was about to start a thread with the exact same title, and there it is from 2010.
Presently I have 3 ghost workunits, which never arrived to my host(s), and interestingly the server somehow knows this, as these didn't count to the 2 wu per GPU limit.

The way these ghost workunits appear gives me the impression that they occure when the GPUGrid scheduler is swamped with requests (when a lot of new work becomes available, and lot of hosts are downloading them simultaneously) |

Got one a week or so ago and almost restarted this thread too.
e11s42_e2s22p0f475-GERARD_FXCXCL12R_1406742_1-0-1-RND6169_0
Never arrived or ran on my system, but might explain why I couldn't get any work on that system during one of the droughts. Did finish properly on resend...
Have seen this before and elsewhere too (Boinc Server issues related to Internet protocol limitations IIRC).
Bit of a side topic but I would like those ancient errors to be purged, I've still got a page full from 2013, another from 2014 and one from 2015 - http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?userid=22036&offset=0&show_names=0&state=5&appid=
Most relate to research that has finished AFAIK - the researchers are long gone.

I had 4 ghost WUs in the period from May 19th - May 27th. None since (so far). |

I currently have 1 ghost wu on my account. My system crashed with boinc in ramdisk
and than crashed 2 more times after I thought I have resolved my problems.
And then again due to power failure. I appologize for the amount of errors.
Hopefully after a long awaited system reinstall no more problems occur.
Is there a way to cancel these ghost WUs?

Each ghost task would probably need to be manually purged from the server - not a job I'd fancy doing from a Terminal!

I currently have a ghost unit on this machine:
http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?hostid=30790
15205139 11672460 16 Jul 2016 | 22:41:02 UTC 21 Jul 2016 | 22:41:02 UTC In progress --- --- --- Long runs (8-12 hours on fastest card) v8.48 (cuda65)
15204990 11672366 16 Jul 2016 | 16:57:40 UTC 21 Jul 2016 | 16:57:40 UTC In progress --- --- --- Long runs (8-12 hours on fastest card) v8.48 (cuda65)

The one bold is the ghost, and it doesn't interfere in getting new units up to the limit of 2 WUs per GPU. This computer has only 1 GPU.
When it reaches the 5 day time limit, someone else will get it, and that's that! |

I got a lot of them a few weeks ago when my ISP was having problems (which is far too often). Then a few days later my power company went down several times in about an hour and I got a lot more. They showed on the site but didn't affect my getting work. It seems that if a WU starts to DL and gets interrupted it often turns into a ghost. |
