Looks like these are going to run very very long, I hope they produce good results and award mega points as well :-)

Looks like these are going to run very very long, I hope they produce good results and award mega points as well :-) Not good on WinXP32 :-) For 19.5 hours crunching on a GTX480 I am only awarded 67,350.00 pts. I would like to suggest that these WUs be reviewed and modified to bring into parity with other WUs. ____________ Thanks - Steve

One of this very long Noelia workunits finished on one of my GTX 480@800MHz in 10 hours and 55 minutes. I've received 98100 credits for it. Another one is running on my GTX 590@625MHz for 7 hours and 27 minutes, it's progress is at 65.154%, it will finish in about 11 hours and 30 minutes. A third one is running on my GTX 580@825MHz, it took 1 hour 27 minutes and 15 seconds to reach 20%, so it will finish in 7 hours and 16 minutes (probably more, because these very long Noelia tasks tend to slow down as they progress). They run at 85% GPU usage.

The researchers might be able to do something for future batches, but GPUGrid runs different sub-projects (looks at different molecular interactions; proteins and drugs), with different parameters. So it's normal for tasks to utilize the GPU to different extents. While these tasks may not utilize the GPU as much as others, bear in mind that this is new ground and the recently developed CUDA 4.2 app is ~50% faster than 3.1.

What is Aero? How do you disable it? Rick

What is Aero? How do you disable it? Rick Don't install it or just don't use an Aero Theme. If it's installed and you are using an Aero theme you can change the theme to a W7 basic theme; Start, Control Panel, Personalization, W7 Basic, and select one of the basic themes. ____________ FAQ's HOW TO: - Opt out of Beta Tests - Ask for Help

And after runing one of these WUs on my GTX 670 Win7 x64 I see that the runtime is much longer than PAOLA WUs but awards much less points (super rough guestimate is that we should be getting about 120K per WU instead of 68K). While we all have our reasons for crunching and I'd like to think I lean towards the altruistic side of the conversation net, points don't cost the project anything so I don't see why you would not align them with the others?

guys NOELIA is not a name of a workunit. She is submitting 3 or 4 different types of WUs, so we need to know which one you are talking about to fix it.

This isn't much to go on,
<![CDATA[ <stderr_txt> MDIO: cannot open file "restart.coor" # Time per step (avg over 3750000 steps): 18.887 ms # Approximate elapsed time for entire WU: 70827.813 s called boinc_finish </stderr_txt> ]]>

I apologize if I came off sounding like an ascii, that was never my intention and I will endeavor to start my threads as a question rather than postulating that I know what is going on.

Ok, glad you got it figured out. I didn't see the 295 in any of your hosts, but that would make sense. I have found other results run on GTX 680s under Win7 and roughly the points per second ratio looks to be about 3 to 1 on various WUs from these series but other WU types come in around 4 to 1 so I still think there is a substantial disparity. If that is within the acceptable range for the project then that's exactly what it is and I won't ask you to look into this any further. We really don't want so much disparity (multiples like that, we prefer in the tens of percents), so please bring things like that to our attention if you happen to find multiple examples (meaning across different crunchers and cards/rigs on the same task name). While often these things are related to the rig itself (downclocking, slow/old card, etc.), it can naturally be on our end as well. I'm currently working on analyzing various aspects of GPUGRID so we can avoid/catch errors/inefficiencies as much as possible, be as fair as possible with credits, and perhaps help crunchers be more efficient. It's a big task, though, so don't hold your breath. Hopefully something good can come out of it.

WinXP 32, BOINC 7.0.28, nvidia driver 301.42, EVGA GTX 480 OCd to shaders 1512 and rock solid stable no downclocking. This was riunning with no user activity as I was at work.
