I took a break from crunching GPUGRID WUs over the summer due to the amount of heat my computers generate. I am intending to start running GPUGRID WUs again in the very near future.
I crunched a current Nathan WU on my GTX 580 this weekend, and the amount of time that it took, approximately 12-hours, I have my concerns that my GTX 460 will no longer be able to return long queue tasks in under 24-hours.
Does anyone else out there have a GTX 460 that you are using for long queue tasks? If so, how long, on average, are they taking?

I do!
I don't have "for sure" numbers on the times, but I believe they do get done within the 24-hour mark. I'll know more once I process more of the long-run tasks using the 8.14 application version (which actually shows which GPU is used, which is important for me, because I also have 2 other GPUs). Until then, by my estimation, I think they get done with 14-22 hours on my GTX 460, using cache settings of 0.05 min buffer and 0.15 max additional buffer, with the GTX 460 doing only GPUGrid work.
Totally worth doing!

I scanned my recently-completed tasks list, and found 2 that were completed using ONLY the GTX 460 (and not the GTX 660 Ti).

So, you can see it takes me about 74000-78000 secs (20.5 hr - 21.67 hr) to get done. With the right cache settings, and setting the GPU to focus only on GPUGrid work, you should get those 24-hr 50% bonuses, like I do!
Edit 2: Forgot to mention, my card is an eVGA GTX 460 SuperClocked, clocked at 763.3 Mhz. So, if your card is slower, then you might have to adjust your time estimates accordingly. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_400_Series, the stock clock is 650 Mhz. So, at that clock rate, you might not be able to make it :-/ ... the times might be something like (24 hr - 25.5 hr). But you'll be doing SCIENCE! (And it would still be worth it, in my opinion).

I have a NOELIA_INS1P running on the card right now. It looks like it will complete in about 22 hours - http://www.gpugrid.net/workunit.php?wuid=4776110
My card is not super-clocked. Perhaps tougher long queue WUs will take longer and may not complete in less than 24 hours; however, for now, I will run long queue tasks on the card.

Dont forget, Even when a unit would run 25 hours, it would bring more credits as on short units for this 25h time. I calculated that one time, it is no problem to go over the 1 Day 150%deadline a bit. Hope i calculate it right, i took a look what queue would bring the most on a 285gtx on theoretical ^^

My GTX 460/768mb card runs Santi and Nathans fine but Noelias stink on this GPU. For some reason it gets sent more than its share of them:

I thought about that, and you're right. For the equivalent time on a 460, short queue tasks render a lot less credit.

I am not sure this is what you are talking about, however, as to the number of tasks, if you have more than one on the machine at a time, and would like only one at a time, try setting both "Computer is connected to the Internet about every" and "Maintain enough work for an additional" to 0 in the "BOINC Preferences" page. This way, you will only have one WU on your machine at a time. Since you have multiple GPUs on that machine, I assume that you will get one task at a time for each GPU.

No, I'm saying that Noelias won't run properly on GPUs with < 1GB. Possibly by bad luck my 460/768 GPU is always sent Noelias first while my 7 > 1GB GPUs are usually sent Santi or Nathan WUs. |
