Message boards : Number crunching : Suggestions for an upgraded multi-GPU workstation

I'm currently "in the market" for new or refurbished multi-GPU supporting workstation to run Linux. I'd like to keep price under 500 USD (and save some money to get newer GPUs). Has anyone found a good recently refurbished workstation that might meet this criteria from one of the larger vendors (HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc) or a server vendor with multi-GPU support.

The Asus ESC4000 G2 holds 4 gpus but the price is around $1000. If you go by MB and x1 risers, the MSI X87-GD65 gamer accepts up to 7 gpus using risers. I am using x1 USB risers with 6 gpus on a bench type of setup.

honestly it would be less expensive and more bang for the buck to build your own.
